In the context of the celebration of the International Day against Homophobia, Bi-, Inter- and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), Stromnetz Berlin inaugurated a new electricity box for their Schönster Stromkasten Berlin project: a rainbowed-colourful box right in front of our space to express their adherence to the values of diversity, tolerance and respect, ethics we fully support at Engelnest too.
At the inauguration were Thomas Schäfer, managing director of Stromnetz, Angelika Schöttler, Schöneberg’s mayor, and Christopher Schreiber from the LSVD (Lesbian and Gay Association Berlin-Brandenburg). This was an opportunity for us to talk deeper with the directive of one of InfraLab’s companies, while also understanding the current challenges of the lesbian and gay community in Berlin.
Stromnetz Berlin has been involved with the LSVD in the Alliance Against Homophobia since 2015, and Thomas Schäfer made his greeting from our coworking space for the digital rally organized by the association to commemorate this important date. In the video, streamed on Monday 17 May, the politics, business, culture, sport, religious and ideological communities show their support to the cause.
Check out here the many designs around Berlin painted for the Schönster Stromkasten by Berlin students.
We believe is important to highlight that while IDAHOBIT is a commemorative day to celebrate the advancement of the rights of the LGBTQI+ people in recent decades, is also a moment to raise awareness that this progress is not universal, as in many regions in the world LGBTQI+ people are still being discriminated against, socially or legally prosecuted and even murder.
